A NOTE FROM OUR ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

It is with great excitement and anticipation that I look forward to my second season working with the Santa Cruz Chorale. In our first year together the Chorale's quality improved dramatically from one concert to the next, culminating in the July concert with compositions by Palestrina and Kirke Mechem. We were honored that Dr. Charlene Archibeque and Kirke Mechem attended this concert, and we were particularly pleased by their comments on it. Dr. Archibeque found it astonishing that a community choir was able to so beautifully express the musical subtleties and nuances of Palestrina. Kirke Mechem was moved to say that the Chorale's rendition of his motets had perfectly captured their musical message, and that he had never heard them so well performed. The Chorale can be very proud of its achievements, and I am confident that together we will continue to enrich the musical culture of Santa Cruz in the upcoming season.

I am delighted to be leading the Santa Cruz Chorale in its 25th season. As a choral director, my goal is to mold individual voices into one instrument - "E pluribus unum." The singers of the Santa Cruz Chorale form a unique musical instrument, and I would like to invite you to share with this group the rich heritage of choral music from around the world. We look forward to welcoming you at our upcoming concerts.
