You are warmly invited to our Spring concert! We will be performing Saturday, April 25 at 8:00pm and Sunday, April 26 at 4:00pm, at Holy Cross Church, 123 High St. Santa Cruz, CA 95060
The Santa Cruz Chorale and Artistic Director Christian Grube have assembled soloists, orchestra, and the choir for joyous and tuneful music featuring compositions by the great Baroque composer, Antonio Vivaldi.
As written in the Sentinel about our December concert :
“…...This was a beautiful, heartwarming concert, rich in its diversity of material spanning a wide variety of geographical locations and chronological periods, but it was the skill and supreme artistry of the director and the tremendous dedication of the performers that brought the joy and gladness of this festive season to a very grateful audience.”
The fest continues as the Santa Cruz Chorale, conducted by Maestro Grube and accompanied by the Monterey Bay Sinfonietta and Vlada Volkova-Moran (Organ), present our own salute to Antonio!
The central work is the festive “Gloria in D-major” for choir, orchestra, and soloists, which is probably the composer’s best-known work aside from “The Four Seasons.” The performance will also include “Laetatus sum” and “Laudate Dominum omnes gentes,” which although less well-known, are equally joyous and expressive. In addition to these compositions by Vivaldi, the program features the exuberant “Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied” by Vivaldi’s contemporary Georg Philipp Telemann; motets by Gabriel Fauré (“Cantique de Jean Racine”) and Felix Mendelssohn (“Verleih uns Frieden”) add contrast from the Romantic period.
You will be charmed by the rich virtuosity of soloists Suzanne Duval (Soprano), Solmaaz Adeli (Mezzo Soprano/Alto), and Elliott Nguyen (Bass), as they join the Chorale for this magnificent music.
The music is toe-tappingly jubilant for all the singers, too, and you will leave the concert with many wonderful tunes and rhythms in your head!
